Starting Over is Essential to Your Creativity and Success

Starting Over is Essential to Your Creativity and Success

written by Bryan Hutchinson

Have you ever been ready to throw your work in the air and give up? Who hasn’t? Hey, maybe starting over isn’t such a bad idea.

Yesterday I was talking with a friend over coffee when he told me he doesn’t get it. “What don’t you get?” I asked him. How Frustration Can Lead to Breakthrough and Picking Yourself

How Frustration Can Lead to Breakthrough and Picking Yourself

written by Bryan Hutchinson

Most of us are waiting to be picked.

We are waiting for an agent or publisher to call, or we are waiting to be picked to take the next step up the ladder, or we are just waiting for someone to give us that pat on the back and let us know what we are doing is worthwhile and, well, you know, to “keep-at-it.”

Crystallize your goals. Make a plan for achieving them and set yourself a deadline. Then, with supreme confidence, determination and disregard for obstacles and other people’s criticisms carry out your plan. ~Paul Meyer

It’s easy for someone to tell you to be clear about your goals, to make a plan to achieve them and set yourself a deadline. And it’s just as easy to say you must have supreme confidence and a disregard for obstacles and other people’s criticisms.

So then, what factor will actually determine your creative success?

Clear the Clutter to Overcome Writer’s Block and (or) Become Your Most Creative

Clear the Clutter to Overcome Writer’s Block and (or) Become Your Most Creative

written by Bryan Hutchinson

Have you ever heard someone use the phrase, organized chaos?

That is how I used to refer to the clutter on my desk. But, really, if I am honest, it was disorganized chaos and it drove me crazy.

I didn’t realize clutter was the cause of so much stress, anxiety and frustration, which naturally resulted in sapping my creativity and all too often caused writer’s block.

Why You Are Not At Your Most Creative (and how to be)

Why You Are Not At Your Most Creative (and how to be)

written by Bryan Hutchinson

There’s a self-limiting myth that I used to believe. It’s a myth books, movies, and songs have propagated for the longest time.

The myth: To be your most creative self you must suffer considerably ever day, you must be sad, or, better yet, depressed, and you should never, ever be happy.

If you fell for this myth, as so many before you have, and you’re stuck, wondering why you are not as creative as you know you can be, here’s why:

written by Bryan Hutchinson

You’re an artist. You know it and I know it. You didn’t need me to affirm that you are an artist. Right?

However, are you a professional?

Perhaps the question would be better phrased: Do you consider yourself a professional? Your answer matters.

Why Keeping a Journal is so Important for Writers and all Creative Types

written by Bryan Hutchinson

I’m sure you know what it is like to have a blank page or canvas in front of you, but you’re unable to capture the great idea you had because you can’t fully remember it.

You need something to stimulate your thoughts or help you remember.

I have a solution that’s been working for me and it may help you, too. Truth is, we tend to make it harder than it needs to be.
